2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Amazing and inspiring!  Danny Boyle did not disappoint.  I loved every minute of it.

It began with children singing and ended with Sir Paul McCartney.  We were entertained with several segments, emphasizing Great Britain’s history, arts and culture.  I chuckled at James Bond escorting the Queen to the stadium.   The show had something for everyone. Yes, the Brits really know how to entertain.

One has got to wonder how something like this can be pulled off due to its epic size.  I suppose the $43 million price tag has something to do with it. In any case though, praise must be given to all the technical expertise.  Not one mishap occurred from what I saw.  It was flawless.

Here are some of the highlights. (In no particular order)

A birds eye view of the stadium

The Olympic Cauldron. What started out as a flat structure, containing petals, was slowly lifted upwards to form a beautiful Olympic symbol

David Beckham escorts the Olympic Torch to it’s destination

The Queen jumps out a a helicopter! 😉

32 Mary Poppins floating down to the stadium to give us all, a spoonful of sugar!

Captain Hook. One of the many references in English Literature

Mr Bean AKA Rowan Atkinson

Performers climbing the large smoke stacks, remembering the all important industrial revolution

Lead by Simon Whitfield, Canada enters the stadium

Kenneth Branagh, playing Isambard Kingdom Brunel. An engineer who was instrumental into the development of Great Britain
